Need For Speed 2 Special Edition

NEED FOR Speed 2 Special Edition adds to the brilliant original Need For Speed 2 Special Edition. It incorporates 3Dfx and MMX technology, four new super cars, a new race track as well as mirror and reverse modes of the original tracks, and a whole new “wild” racing style.

International Cricket Captain

HERE is a game that is truly for cricket fans – International Cricket Captain, a simulation of the English County Cricket Championship.

After choosing your county from the list of 18, you start on the difficult task of leading your team in the county championship, played over 17 games. The games are four-dayers, with each side having two innings. There are also three one-day competitions, two of 40 overs and one of 60 overs.

Xplosiv

If you do well enough (or use a cheat code), you can even captain the England national team in a test series. Given how well they’ve been doing in the past few years though, maybe that supposed honour should go to the losing captain of the county series!

There are add-on packs expected this year for the Australian and South African domestic competitions, but none for New Zealand. Maybe some enterprising Kiwi can come up with a patch to change that.

Graham Gooch World Class Cricket

There is a great little shareware cricket game available on the Bulletin Boards. It’s only text based, with no graphics whatsoever, but it lets you play exciting one-dayers against the best cricketers the world has to offer. One of the best things about it is that you can edit the teams to include all your friends. I’ve had many a fun time (and fine innings!), playing a quick game of “One-Dayer” to while away five minutes.

There are a lot of different sport simulations available, but very few on cricket for some reason. World Class Cricket is the newest, and I jumped at the chance to play a cricket game with (gasp) graphics!

World Class Cricket lets you play test matches or one-dayers against either a friend or the computer. All test playing countries are represented, and each includes a squad of twenty players to choose from. This seems fairly up to date too, and includes the correct squad for New Zealand’s recent tour of England. Each player is rated for his style and handedness, plus bowling and batting averages.

Superbike

SUPERBIKE is a simulation of the real Superbike championship. It has all the real tracks, bikes, and riders, including Kiwis Aaron Slight and Simon Crafar.

This is probably your only chance to jump on a high-performance motor bike and go hooning along at 300kmh. I certainly wouldn’t be brave enough to do it for real.

and as a slightly different twist to this column, we are having a look at a rather weird adventure game called Full Throttle in the not too distant future. Late Braking News MCNEWS.COM.AU

Just watching the introduction movie for this game reminds you of the spectacular falls the riders can get into. It’s bad enough rolling and bouncing through the air at 300kmh without worrying about trying to avoid the bike that is hurtling along behind you! No thanks.
